Virtual Recall 2010 : Funded by China, largely put together by Hong Kongers and with a mixed cast, Virtual Recall is a clever idea for a psychodrama-cum-fantasy that's let down by unsubtle direction and a weak script. Based on Symbiosis, the 12th novel in popular Hong Kong writer Lam Wing-sum's series Subtle Stories - her Magic Kitchen was already turned into a glossy Sammi Cheng-Andy Lau vehicle in 2004 - the film has enough potential to work as, say, a super-slick South Korean genre movie but only works fitfully here under the rather '90s-style direction of Larry Cheung, The Sword Stained with Royal Blood, 1993) and with a less-than-generous budget.
Basically a mystery-drama played out between two women (a patient and a doctor) in a sanitarium, with a lot of scientific babble about parallel universes and a Big Final Twist, the movie depends a lot on mood and chemistry between its two leads. Cheung is not much good at sustaining the former, but he does have two interesting lead actresses - lively, Taiwan-born Cherrie Ying, Johnnie To's Throw Down as the "special" patient and Mainland actress-singer Tang Yifei) as the screwed-up psychiatrist. There's only marginal chemistry between the two on screen but individually both give performances that are watchable on a genre level, especially Tang (the terrorist leader's sexy wife in Future X-Cops. Hong Kong's Stephen Fung, as the psychiatrist's patient husband, is colorless, as so often.
Apparently set in Hong Kong, but never convincingly so, the film is just okay on a technical level, as are the visual effects.

Street Wars 2011 : Elijah Kane (Steven Segal), the head of a crack undercover police unit, leads his team in a race against time to bring to justice the cold blooded gang flooding the Seattle streets with a lethal drug.
Steven Seagal has ventured from movies into the world of TV with varying success. Of late, big Papa has looked a little weary in his film outings. When once he snapped many a neck with aplomb and gusto, he now doesn’t seem to have much heart for the job in hand. Obliterating evil doers just doesn’t seem to fill Steve-o with the sense of pride and fulfilment that it used to. Seagal’s first foray into TV, was the reasonably successful fly on the wall docu, Lawman. The show, kind of like Cops, with Steven Seagal, followed the ponytailed Adonis (well, if you believe Seagal himself!) around during his shifts as a genuine member of the Sherrif’s department. It was a little put on, a little stagey, but then again, most reality shows these days are. But on a side note, would you want to get arrested by Steven Seagal? Certainly, if Out For Justice was anything to go by, resisting arrest would be a bad idea. Following Lawman, Seagal opted to portray a fictional detective as well in True Justice.
True Justice is pretty much your middle of the road cop show. It aspires to be something better than what it is, but sadly, is just a pale imitation of far, far better shows. Not a patch on high end shows such as 24, this delivers little more than perfunctory entertainment. Much like Seagal’s movie career has descended into low-rent his TV career, at least fictional, has started that way. It’s hardly a step up. Despite Seagal’s creative input as show creator and writer, his performance in the central role, is lacking in much enthusiasm. Or perhaps anything noticeable, but then again… this is Steven Seagal we’re talking about. The man has three facial expressions, all of which register some degree of quiet, seething contempt.
Street Wars, a feature length episode from the first series, sees Seagal on the trail of drug dealers and rogue DEA agents in part one of this paint by numbers thriller. At 90 minutes, and half a story, Street Wars drags and meanders its way through a lot of muddled plotting. The storytelling is dire, with little cohesion to speak of, nor intelligence or logic. As a film of its own Street Wars doesn’t really work, nor does it actually go anywhere before its abrupt end, which for a Seagal action film, is sorely lacking in a finale. This is a problem sometimes in releasing feature length TV episodes as stand-alone features, if they require a previous or subsequent instalment to make sense. In this regard especially, fans of Seagal, picking this up expecting a complete film, may be disappointed. Though in actuality, fans should be more disappointed with the lack of action.
The cast are all cardboard cut outs. A veritable collection of clichéd personalities, be it on Seagal’s unit, or the bad guys. Indeed, we never get properly introduced to the bad guy in Street Wars (who I believe is known as “Bald guy in car”). And as it transpires, he may in fact be working for a big boss above him, who we only hear by voice towards the end. It’s all very ambiguous. In part intentional, as of course it’s only half way into the story (though the cover art and DVD menu don’t actually let you know this). However, having not watched the series, for all I know this could be the end of the story anyhow. Mostly though, this is a poorly written mess, where narrative structure plays no part.
Seagal himself seems only a little more engaged than usual. His character, Elijah Kane though, comes across as unlikeable and unrealistic. He’s just too damn good and everyone else a little bit shit. Kane knows everything and needs to inject no effort into anything he does, including speaking. If there’s a trap set for him, he knows well in advance. If a building is booby trapped, he knows and can dismantle it with consummate ease. Okay, this may well be standard Seagal character traits, as is his invincibility in combat, but it’s tiresome to have someone so infallible. Hell, Kane can even effortlessly pull stunning women over 30 years his junior. It’s almost caricature, and his sage, wise characteristics as leader of the group, always seem unrealistic or lazy. The Elijah Kane big book of wisdom and sage advice, is a book not worth reading, I can assure you. Largely down to his character reeking of a pure Seagal ego trip. It borders on moronic how lazy the characterisation of the shows lead is.
As a fan of Seagal’s earlier, meat and potatoes work, it frustrates me seeing him in such low rent fare. The action is sparse, poorly conceived and flatly edited. Occasional orgasmic bursts of avid farting are jarring and out of place, while the poor attempt at CSI style gloss, just doesn’t work on Walmart budget. This isn’t the Seagal of old who conceived such brilliant set pieces as the bar fight in Out For Justice, or a three on one escape in Marked For Death. There’s no rhythm nor imagination, nor gritty reality to the action, nor any visual punch due to very tight filming and frantic editing, making the action (and no doubt Seagal’s doubles) indiscernible. Sadly, I can’t recommend this, even to the undemanding of genre fans. For a better example in Seagal’s recent history, check Pistol Whipped. Otherwise stick to his golden period of Under Siege and before.

Insidious 2011 DVDRip : The film begins with a mysterious old woman (Philip Friedman) near an ominously lit back window. She smiles and then the screen flashes to black.
A couple, Renai and Josh Lambert (Rose Byrne and Patrick Wilson), and their three kids have recently moved into a new house. One morning, Renai begins looking through a family photo album. Her son, Dalton (Ty Simpkins), joins her. He asks why there are no pictures of Josh when he was a child, which Renai reasons that he has always been camera shy. After Dalton tells Renai he is scared of his new room, she calms him down and stacks a few books on a nearby shelf. Later, after finding those books laying on the floor, Renai tells Dalton to put them back after he looks at them, but Dalton claims that he didn't touch them. Sometime later, as Dalton is playing, he hears noises in the attic and goes to investigate. He steps on an old ladder to turn on the light when it breaks, causing Dalton to fall. He starts screaming after looking at a shadowy corner. Renai and Josh help him, then tuck him into bed, confident he only took a minor spill and scared himself. The next day Josh goes to wake Dalton, but he doesn't move. They rush him to the hospital where the doctors say he is in an unexplained coma. 3 months later, still in a coma, they bring Dalton home to care for him there.
Over the next few days, escalating paranormal events begin to occur. One night, after arriving home late, Josh is confronted by Renai about the mysterious happenings in the house, which she claims is haunted. When Josh doesn't believe her, she shows him a bloody handprint on Dalton's bedsheets. Shortly afterwards, Renai is almost attacked by a mysterious man in the bedroom, which triggers the house alarm. Josh rushes to Renai, but finds no one else in the room. Unable to ignore what is going on, Josh agrees to move. Moving to a new house proves fruitless for the family, as increasingly violent and supernatural events begin to occur again. Josh's mother (Barbara Hershey), believing what Renai says about the hauntings, contacts a friend of hers, Elise Reiner (Lin Shaye), who deals in paranormal activity. Later, the family, Elise, and her team, go into Dalton's room. There, she sees something on the ceiling and describes it to one of her men, who draws it. It turns out to be a dark, demonic figure with a red face.
Elise explains to Renai and Josh that Dalton has the ability to astral project. This means that he can wander around the parallel spirit world, which she calls The Further, and interact with the lost souls of the dead and demons. He does this in his sleep, which he thinks are simply dreams. She also reveals that his astral projection has attracted a very powerful red-faced demon, which has drawn Dalton into The Further and separated him from his body, in the hopes that he can take it over for his evil purposes. Elise and Josh's mother reveal to the couple that Josh also can astral project, and that he was terrorized by an old spirit during his childhood. Josh's mother then shows them forgotten pictures from Josh's childhood. In each picture, a shadowy old woman lurks ever closer behind Josh. The spirit is shown to be the old woman from the beginning of the film. Elise suggests that Josh uses his ability of astral projection to enter the Further and free Dalton's soul. Josh agrees, and Elise instructs Josh how to enter The Further, which he does successfully. Josh finds Dalton and leads him out, narrowly escaping the red-faced demon. Just before Josh himself escapes, he confronts the old woman, affirming that he is unafraid of her. The old woman retreats and looks to have been scared off. Josh awakens, as does Dalton.
Later, Dalton, Renai, and Josh's mother are in the kitchen, eating. In the other room, Josh converses with Elise when she notices something strange about him; she grabs a camera from her bag and snaps a picture of him. Suddenly, Josh goes into a rage and strangles Elise. Renai hears the noise and runs into the room to find Elise dead. She calls out to Josh, but receives no answer. She picks up the camera that Elise used from the floor, and screams. She sees, not a picture of Josh, but one of the old woman instead. Just then, Josh grabs Renai's shoulder. She turns around, gasps, and she starts to run and the screen cuts to black.

The Roommate 2011 : Sara Matthews (Minka Kelly) is starting her freshman year of college at ULA. Upon arrival, she meets Tracy Morgan (Alyson Michalka), an avid party-goer, and Stephen Morterelli (Cam Gigandet), a drummer who plays in a band for a fraternity who later begins to date Sara. After a party at Stephen's fraternity house that lands Tracy drunk, Sara arrives back at her dorm late at night and meets Rebecca Evans (Leighton Meester), her new roommate, whose parents live only 20 minutes away and who is great at drawing portraits of people.
Initially, the girls begin to bond very well as Rebecca learns more about Sara's life. Sara had an older sister, Emily, who died when Sara was nine. She keeps a necklace that belonged to Emily as well as her sister's name tattooed on her chest. She also has an ex-boyfriend, Jason (Matt Lanter), who keeps calling her to try to get back together with her. The history behind their breakup is that Jason and Sara agreed to both go to Brown University or not, and when only Sara got a spot, she declined it and chose ULA. However, when Jason got accepted to Brown at the last minute, he accepted to go without Sara, reneging on their agreement. Against dorm regulations, the two girls secretly adopt a stray kitten which Sara found.
As time goes on, though, Rebecca begins to become more obsessed with spending time with Sara and wants to have her all to herself. She is willing to keep at bay anyone who wronged Sara or who she thinks is stealing Sara away from her. This is evident in multiple scenarios:
– Tracy's avid party-going takes a turn for the worse when she invites Sara to a dance/bar club but leaves her there, who eventually calls Rebecca for a ride. Later, one night, Rebecca jumps Tracy in the shower and threatens to kill her unless Tracy stays away from Sara (she even pries Tracy's belly ring from her bellybutton). This leads Tracy, now fearful, to move to another dorm.
– When Sara's philandering interior design professor (Billy Zane) makes a pass at her in private, Rebecca goes into his office and tempts him to make a pass at her, while recording their dialogue on a tape recorder to make it look like he was hitting on her. Sara, oblivious to what Rebecca has done, is surprised to find out the next day in class that she has a new professor, Chanel DuBouis (Sharon Leal).
– When Sara leaves her phone in her room one time to go out on a date with Stephen, Rebecca hears it ring and answers only to find it is Jason on the other end. Impersonating Sara, she tells Jason threateningly over the phone never to call her (Sara) again. For several weeks afterwards, Jason does not call Sara, much to the latter's amazement.
– When Irene (Danneel Harris), one of Sara's friends who already has her own fashion design, invites her to move in to her place so she can keep their stray cat, Rebecca kills the kitten by putting it in a laundry room dryer and pretends that it had run away. When Stephen even invites Sara to spend Thanksgiving with him, Rebecca beats herself up and cuts herself with a knife to look like she went looking for the cat but was assaulted by a street thug. Sara, feeling bad for Rebecca, decides to decline spending Thanksgiving with Stephen and, instead, spend time with her at her parents' place.
Rebecca's folks (Frances Fisher and Tomas Arana) are delighted and surprised to see their daughter, who didn't announce that Sara was coming. During her stay, Sara overhears a conversation between Rebecca and her father; apparently Rebecca has had a troubled past with making friends. Later, her mother, in a conversation with Sara, hints at medication that Rebecca is supposed to be taking. When the girls go out to a coffee shop, they bump into a girl, Maria (Nina Dobrev), who was acquainted with Rebecca from high school and is on some of Rebecca's portrait drawings. Maria tells Rebecca with unease, "We were never friends."
After Thanksgiving break, Sara learns that Irene has returned from a fashion tour. When Rebecca goes to Irene's studio, Sara and Stephen find from her drawers a bottle of pills of Zyprexa, which is used to treat schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, but, as the bottle is full, she has never been taking them. Later, they also find one of Rebecca's books in which she has handdrawn portrait sketches of Sara, just like the ones of Maria. The implication is that Maria was once a 'best friend' that Rebecca has obsessed over, but now Sara has taken her place.
At the studio, Rebecca and Irene meet, the latter unaware that Rebecca is roommates with Sara. Irene, who is somewhat attracted to girls, shares a romantic moment with Rebecca, and the two go back to Irene's place. Finally, Rebecca draws the last straw when she gets a tattoo which she reveals is identical to Sara's with her sister's name. Emotionally shocked, Sara runs off. She packs some of her things, with the exception of her sister Emily's necklace that she can't find, and moves in with Stephen at his fraternity house.
In the midst of all this, Jason has arrived on campus at Sara's dorm. He leaves a written note under her door saying he wants to see her as well as revealing the hotel and room where he is staying. Rebecca, having read the note, poses as Sara with her sister's necklace and the tattoo she got, goes to Jason's hotel room, and stabs him to death with a pocket knife.
Eventually, all scenes converge when Sara gets a text from Irene's phone saying she needs her right away. She in turn leaves voicemail on Stephen's phone telling him she will be at Irene's place. When she gets there, she finds Irene held hostage by Rebecca with a pistol. She reveals to Sara that she was responsible for what happened to Tracy, the professor, Jason, and the kitten and that she did it all because she wanted to win Sara's friendship. When Sara apologizes, Rebecca forgives her but wants to kill Irene. The two begin fighting, and Stephen arrives just in time to help stop Rebecca from pulling the trigger on Irene. However, in the ongoing struggle involving gunshots fired, Stephen is knocked unconscious while Sara is left dangling out of the window high above the ground (she had been trying to escape to get help). Although Rebecca pulls Sara back to safety, the latter reaches for the pistol with which to shoot her, but the cartridge is empty. Rebecca, enraged that her so-called friend would shoot her, attacks Sara with insanity and attempts to strangle her. Sara reaches for a pocket knife and, saying, "You were never my friend," (echoing Maria's words from earlier in the film), stabs Rebecca in the back, effectively killing her. She retrieves Emily's necklace back from her.
Life on campus goes on, as Sara moves back into a dorm. This time, with Stephen's help, she moves the extra bed set out of her room, proclaiming to her boyfriend that she does not want a roommate for a while.

I Am Number Four 2011 : An alien from planet Lorien (Alex Pettyfer) was sent to Earth as a child alongside eight others to escape an invading race, the Mogadorians, which destroyed their home planet. He is protected by a Warrior/Guardian, Henri (Timothy Olyphant), and has developed superpowers due to his extraterrestrial nature, such as enhanced strength, speed and agility, telekinesis, resistance to fire and heat, and the power to generate light from his hands.
The Mogadorians, led by the Commander (Kevin Durand) eventually discover about the nine toddlers and come to Earth in search of them. These Loriens can only be killed in a particular sequence, with three of them having already been slain. John is Number Four. Knowing this, he and Henri move from Florida to Paradise, Ohio, where John befriends conspiracy theorist Sam Goode (Callan McAuliffe), a dog named Bernie Kosar, and falls in love with amateur photographer Sarah Hart (Dianna Agron), whose ex-boyfriend, school athlete Mark James (Jake Abel) is a bully who often torments both John and Sam.
During the spring carnival, Mark and his friends capture John and Sarah, whom they believe are in a relationship, and follow them into the woods, where they attempt to beat John up. However, he uses his powers to fend them off and rescue Sarah. Sam witnesses the events, and John tells him his true origin. Shortly thereafter, Marks father, the local sheriff, interrogates Henri on Johns whereabouts when his son and his friends were attacked, and notices that he has a high-tech surveillance system. Henri tells John that too many people are suspicious of them, in addition to Johns random displays of power, caused by his difficulty in controlling them, and that they must leave. However, John tells him he cant because he's in love with Sarah.
The Mogadorians start searching for John. Another alien from Lorien, Number Six (Teresa Palmer), decided to go after the Mogadorians instead of running away from them after her Guardian was murdered. The Mogadorians eventually locate John and manipulate two conspiracy theorists into capturing Henri. When John and Sam go to rescue him, they are attacked but manage to fend Mogadorians off. However, Henri is mortally wounded and dies after John and Sam escape with some Lorien artifacts, including a blue rock that acts as a tracking device to locate other Loriens. Sams father, a conspiracy theorist who disappeared while hunting aliens in Mexico, has another. While Sam searches for it, John tries to say goodbye to Sarah at a party, only to discover that the Mogadorians have framed him and Henri for the murders of the conspiracy theorists, as well as being terrorists due to their cutting-edge technology. Mark sees John and calls his father, who corners John and Sarah. He saves her from a fall, revealing his powers in the process, and they escape to their high school.
Meanwhile, The Commander also arrives at Paradise, blocking the exits with trucks. He is confronted by Mark and his father, and, after injuring the latter, he forces the former to show him where John is hiding, Mark then takes him to the school, which he knows is Sarahs hideout.
There, John, Sarah, and Sam are attacked by the Commander and his soldiers, who have brought two giant monsters to hunt the trio. They are saved by Number Six and Johns "dog," Bernie Kosar, who reveals his true form as a good Chimera, which can shapeshift, and was sent by his parents to protect him. Bernie Kosar eventually shapeshifts back to a beagle with a very wounded paw. John and Number Six, who can make herself invisible and block energy-based attacks, fight the Mogadorians. They eventually defeat them all, including the Commander, whose energy grenades are overheated by John and explode, destroying his body.
On the following day, John, Number Six, Sam, and Bernie Kosar, the shapeshifting Chimera, unite their blue rocks and discover the location of the other four surviving Loriens. They set to find them and rally them together to protect Earth from the Mogadorians, leaving Sarah and a repentant Mark, who has redeemed himself by lying to his father about Johns whereabouts and returning to John a box belonging to his father.

Sucker Sucker Punch 2011 TS V2 : After the death of her mother, Baby Doll (Emily Browning) and her sister are almost killed by their stepfather in his attempt to claim their inheritance for himself. Baby Doll gets her Stepfather's gun and tries to kill him -- but kills her sister instead. This gives her stepfather the perfect reason to claim that Baby Doll is insane, and has her committed.
At the Institution, Baby Doll is ushered into an auditorium with other mentally disturbed girls and their therapist, Dr. Vera Gorski. Here, Baby Doll overhears her stepfather discussing an arrangement with the Asylum's director, Blue Jones- Blue has forged Gorski's signature to approve a lobotomy on Baby Doll in five days.
Baby Doll also overhears Dr. Gorski telling the girls that they have power within their minds; through her imagination, Baby Doll then visualizes the Institution as a dance hall, with her stepfather as a corrupt priest and Blue as the owner of the dance hall. Dr. Gorski is seen as the dance instructor for the girls in the hall. Another girl, Rocket quickly befriends Baby Doll, but Rocket's older sister, Sweet Pea, scoffs at her. A bond forms soon after when Baby Doll saves Rocket from being attacked by the Institution's cook.
Dr. Gorski tries to get Baby Doll to dance and, finally, Baby does. When she dances, Baby Doll finds herself transported to a Japanese Dojo.
Inside the Dojo, Baby Doll finds an old man (played by Scott Glenn) who gives her sound advice. He claims to know that the High-Roller (outside Baby Doll's imagination, he is the lobotomist) will come for Baby Doll in five days, and he gives Baby Doll weapons for her survival: a katana sword and a handgun, which can be used in her dream world. The old man also states that, if Baby Doll is to live, she must collect five objects: a map, fire, a knife, a key, and a fifth object, which she'll need to discover for herself. Upon leaving the Dojo, Baby Doll is set upon by three giant samurai warriors. At first passive, Baby Doll soon slays the giants, and her "dance" ends.
The other girls in the dance troupe are impressed: all except Sweet Pea. In the dressing room later, Baby Doll outlines her escape plan to several of the girls. Rocket and two other girls, Blondie and Amber, are willing to help, but Sweet Pea takes some coaxing before finally agreeing, and with the condition that they give up if the plan becomes too dangerous.
The girls put a plan into effect to get the map in Blue's office. Sweet Pea coaxes Blue to watch Baby Doll dance. After he leaves his office, she uses a copying machine to make a copy of the facility's map.
Meanwhile, Baby Doll dances for Blue and goes into her dream-state. In a World War I setting, the old man appears, giving the girls orders to retrieve a map being held by steam-punk, reanimated German infantrymen. Amber pilots a giant mech-suit while the girls make their way into the enemy trenches. They manage to retrieve the map, and Baby Doll's dance for Blue ends.
Blue tells Gorski that he is impressed and wants to have Baby Doll perform for the Mayor. Gorski says that Baby Doll is not ready for such a performance, but Blue demands his way. He then returns to his office, only to find the copier still warm, and the push-pins in the facility's map in a slightly different arrangement.
The girls soon get wind of the request, and Amber is chosen to retrieve the Mayor's cigar lighter. It will give them the fire that they need.
When the Mayor visits for the performance, Amber retrieves the lighter while Baby Doll distracts him with a dance. Her imagination gives way, and she finds herself in a medieval setting with the old man and the other girls, aboard a World War II bomber. The old man outlines the plan: to make their way into the castle below, slit the throat of a baby dragon, and retrieve two stones in its throat that will produce fire . . . without awaking the mother of the dragon.
Amber and Blondie stay on the plane; Baby Doll, Sweet Pea, and Rocket land and enter the castle. Fighting off a horde of evil creatures, Baby Doll manages to find the baby dragon. She kills it and retrieves the stones, but not before the baby cries out -- and its enormous mother hears. The enormous dragon pursues the girls, until Baby Doll at last kills it, driving her kitana into its brain.
In the club, the dance ends. The girls gather in their dressing room, ecstatic that Amber has retrieved the second thing on the list. They hide it none too soon as Blue and his henchmen come to see the girls. His tone is one of malice: he says that he feels hurt that the girls may be hiding something from him or doing something behind his back. After he leaves, Sweet Pea demands that they call the plan off; but the other girls want to see it through to the end.
The girls (except Blondie) soon are working in the kitchen, with the intent to get a knife from the cook. They shock him when they suddenly set up Baby Doll to 'perform,' with Rocket attempting to placate him, while Sweet Pea retrieves the knife from one of his holsters.
Baby Doll then goes into her dance, and in her mind's eye, the girls find themselves on a strange planet in a helicopter piloted by Amber. The old man is with them again, giving orders that there is a bomb on a speeding train headed for a futuristic city. The girls are to disable the bomb, and get away with it. Baby Doll, Sweet Pea, and Rocket make their way through an army of cyborg guards, and disable the bomb. However, one of the cyborgs is not completely destroyed, and he ends up reactivating it. With little time to spare, Rocket sacrifices herself to save Baby Doll and Sweet Pea.
This is reflected in the kitchen when the cook catches Sweet Pea attempting to steal his knife. He then attempts to stab her, but instead stabs Rocket, killing her. Blue soon finds out, and has Sweet Pea locked away, when the cook tells what she was doing.
Amber manages to hide the knife, but the next day, 'The High-Roller' arrives to see Baby Doll. The girls are still without their 4th and 5th elements to escape. As they prepare for their performance, Blue arrives in the dressing room, and explains that Blondie told him everything, under the pretenses that none of the girls would be hurt. Blue then threatens Gorski, before shooting Amber and Blondie. Everyone else leaves the dressing room, as Blue attempts to have his way with Baby Doll. However, she manages to find the knife Amber hid, and stabs him in the shoulder. In his dazed state, she claims 'you'll never have me,' and takes his key.
Baby Doll then retrieves the other items, and frees Sweet Pea. She then uses the lighter and a bottle of liquor to start a fire in a closet. They then use the map to make their way to the security doors, before the fire is found, and the alarms are pulled, which unlocks all the security doors. The two then sneak out to the front entrance, but find the way blocked by several large men.
It is then that Baby Doll realizes what the fifth item need to escape is: her. She then tells Sweet Pea that she was never meant to escape, but to help Sweet Pea get back to her family. Sweet Pea doesn't want to abandon Baby Doll, but finally does so, escaping through the front gates of the facility, as Baby Doll creates a distraction, before being brought back into the facility, and into the confines with the High-Roller.
The scene then transitions to the aftermath of the lobotomy. As the doctor cleans up, he is shaken by the look on Baby Doll's face, feeling that she showed almost no fear about what was to befall her. Dr Gorski soon talks to him, claiming that Baby Doll caused numerous problems at the facility, including setting fire to a closet, and even stabbing the head of the facility, Blue. The Lobotomist still questions the speed of the request that Gorski signed regarding Baby Doll, but the Doctor shockingly explains that she did not make any such request!
Meanwhile, the lobotomized Baby Doll is led away, but then to a private room where Blue is waiting. Once alone, he claims that the lobotomized girl has no way to stop him from doing what he wants...before the door bursts open, and Gorski, the Lobotomist and several officers are seen. The officers drag Blue out, as he wails that Baby Doll's Stepfather was the person behind the whole idea.
In an epilogue, we see Sweet Pea about to depart on a bus for Fort Wayne, Indiana. As she is about to get on, some officers come up and want to ask her some questions. Before she can respond, the bus driver (who we see is the same old man from Baby Doll's imaginative dreams!) tells the officers that the girl just stepped off the bus to use the restrooms, and that he has a schedule to keep. The officers believe him, and Sweet Pea boards the bus. She tells the driver she doesn't have a ticket, but he simply tells her to take a seat in the back and have a rest. As the bus takes off, we see it going down an old dirt road, passing a billboard with the words 'Paradise Diner' on it, a sign that almost hints to us that Sweet Pea is heading towards a new life
